About Key Healthcare

Teen Healing Insights

Key Healthcare is an amazing teen residential treatment program. Our son was struggling with marijuana addiction, serious anxiety, depression, was not listening, and had no motivation. We have tried 2 other teen therapy options, but Key Healthcare is what our son has responded to the best by far. Their teen inpatient program has a really cool and inviting environment, with really great therapists, and the staff were all very friendly, and caring. The family therapy sessions were very valuable to our family as well. My son didn’t feel like he was going to therapy when he was at key healthcare. They provided educational structure for him to get his schoolwork done and he took part in group therapy which he spoke positively about.

I highly recommend key healthcare to any family that has a teen struggling. Friend of mine sent their teen to the teen residential program, which drastically helped their son, and family life. We ended up sending our daughter to key healthcare’s iop as well and she got an extremely high level of therapy, which she resonated with. We saw a huge shift in our daughter after she completed their teen rehab.
As a treatment professional, I am so grateful for the team at Key! My students have found the mentoring/coaching services to be so incredibly supportive. The mentors are so good at connecting with students, engaging them in positive healthy activities and steering them towards building healthy skills. The parent coaching adds such a strong element. When combined with inpatient therapy. Thanks to all the team at Key!

Evidence-Based Residential Treatment Center for Covina Adolescents

As for parents, the term residential treatment comes with its fair share of mixed ideas and conflicting feelings, and perhaps, leads towards a lot of confusion. And we understand that.

For many parents, that confusion doesn’t affect their day-to-day life. Until it’s their teen who is caught in a crisis of struggles, and the full consequence hits home. And when your teen experiments with drugs, opioids, or alcohol, they’re not just staking their health but also plunging themselves into a world filled with despair and danger.

This isn’t just about poor choices—it’s about a lifestyle that connects them with a subculture endorsing all the wrong values, from drug use to destructive behaviors.

Statistics from the LA County Department of Public Health paint a stark picture of these poor choices, with a disturbing number of teenagers in Los Angeles County losing their lives due to fentanyl overdose.

  • Figure 2 shows that there were large increases in fentanyl overdose deaths for all age groups from 2016-2023. In 2023, the number of fentanyl overdose deaths for youth who are aged 17 and under was 101.
  • Figure 11 shows that fentanyl overdoses Emergency Department (ED) visits in LAC increased 833% from 133 in 2016 to 1,241 in 2022. In 2022, fentanyl overdose ED visits among youth who are aged 17 and under was 21.
Fentanyl Overdose ED Visits by Age, LAS, 2016-2022
Fentanyl Overdose Deaths by Age, LAS, 2016-2023

Quite devastating. But you see, sometimes, teens can stray from a healthy path despite their best efforts. And the reasons for this are many. To name a few- bullying, peer pressure, avoiding mental health struggles, easing the feeling of insecurity, easy access to these substances through social media, etc.

Therefore, when these challenges pile up, a helping hand can make all the difference. That’s where our evidence-based residential treatment center steps in. We provide personalized therapy plans for teens and their families during these temptation crises, helping pave the way toward a healthy and promising future. Our aim:

  • Is to target the roots of these underlying issues
  • Eradicate the root causes of the problems instead of sweeping them under the rug
  • And ensure that every teen has the tools, skills, and support they need to thrive despite the obstacles they face

Covina Teen Therapists & Counselors

We designed our program using evidence-based methods. For instance, therapies like EMDR, DBT, Exposure Therapy, and CBT enable our therapist to effectively treat your teen’s mental health challenges and substance use disorders.

However, continuing the teen’s progress after our residential program is very important. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of licensed therapists in Covina to ensure ongoing local support. These professionals hold credentials such as LCSW and LMFT and are always available to help your teen whenever they need.

Note: We aren’t affiliated with these therapists. But all of them are licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), ensuring your teen gets top-notch medical care close to home.

Yoga therapy is a powerful way to heal mental health. It helps teens reduce anxiety, manage stress, and find inner calm. That’s why we include it in our treatment sessions and consider it an important part of our holistic treatment approach.

We help teens by teaching them popular yoga techniques like deep breathing and mindfulness. These methods allow them to relax, stay focused, let go of negative thoughts, and build confidence.

After the teen completes our residential care, practicing yoga or other activities can reduce the chance of relapse and support long-term healing. For example, activities like martial arts, gym workouts, tracking, and dancing help teens maintain the healthy habits they’ve built in residential care. Consequently, these routines provide balance, stability, and a sense of purpose.
