But you don’t have to feel helpless—Key Healthcare (licensed by California’s DHCS) is here for you. Our 45-60 days teen residential treatment program is led by experts who have decades of expertise. It’s designed to meet your teen’s unique conditions, offering targeted intervention and personalized care for a healthy future.

Likewise, during our treatment process, we employ evidence-based clinical modalities. Such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Exposure Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Why? Because these therapies don’t just help teens release the heavy emotions tied to their trauma. But they even guide them in facing their fears, calming their anxiety, and building effective coping skills they can rely on for life.

This is why our program is recommended by top healthcare professionals in Santa Monica. We also know that keeping up with academics is important for your teen’s growth. That’s why our program includes continued academic support, so they don’t fall behind while getting the care they need. And don’t worry about the financial side—we work with most insurance providers to make sure costs aren’t an added burden.

Evidence-Based Residential Therapy for Santa Monica Adolescents

It was a typical Tuesday night in Santa Monica, or so everyone thought. But on May 23, 2022, three teenage girls faced a devastating reality. They believed they were taking ecstasy bought from an online dealer. Instead, the crushed pills were laced with fentanyl, a deadly drug. This mistake led to two 15-year-olds being rushed to the hospital with life-threatening overdoses. This isn’t just an isolated incident posted in Patch; it’s part of a growing trend. This incident is a stark example of a disturbing trend: illicit drugs and counterfeit pills laced with toxic substances that impact multiple organs, including the heart and brain, leading to potentially fatal complications.

According to The Malibu Times, the same year, three SAMOHS students overdosed on fentanyl, seven in the LAUSD, and tragically, a 15-year-old girl in Hollywood lost her life. This fentanyl crisis is closer than we think, and many teens who are victims are unaware they’re even consuming it.

These heartbreaking stories force us to confront the harsh reality. They make us wonder how we can protect our teens. This is why residential treatment in 2024 is so critical.

Our residential treatment center in Santa Monica is distinct from other RTC centers. We offer a distinctive and highly regarded therapeutic program that’s hard to find elsewhere in this area.

Furthermore, our team of skilled therapists, doctors, and counselors is dedicated to understanding what really troubles teens, whether it’s anger, sadness, peer pressure, family history, domestic violence, substance abuse, eating disorders, or emotional instability. They dig deep to uncover the root causes.

But we go beyond just coping strategies. We aim to help teens in Santa Monica dream again and envision a future full of happiness and success. In our program, they can practice what they learn in our safe, supportive RTC environment.

At Key Healthcare, we are committed to making a real difference. We help teens rewrite their stories, guiding them towards brighter, more successful futures.

Our caring staff is there to help support your child's studies while they're healing.

Meet the Team

Santa Monica Teen Therapist & Counselors

Our teen residential treatment program is built on therapies that work—ones backed by solid evidence. These therapies don’t just help teens stop harmful behaviors; they help them see and understand the negative thoughts that often lead to those actions. And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is among the therapies that we employ during our treatment.

With CBT, our trained therapists guide teens in identifying and reshaping their negative thinking. This shift can ease feelings of anxiety disorders and depression, making life feel a little lighter. But CBT’s impact goes beyond that. Here’s how it benefits teens:

  • Improves their self-esteem
  • Teaches them to stop negative thoughts before they turn harmful
  • Enhances communication skills
  • Better self-compassion
  • Helps them manage stress in healthier ways
  • Shifts their thought patterns from negative to positive
  • Reduces and manages their fears, anxieties, and even phobias
  • Strengthens their ability to steer social situations with confidence.

While our program builds a solid foundation for your teen’s future, recovery doesn’t stop here. That’s why, even after our program ends, we remain connected to their journey. How by giving parents a list of trusted counselors & therapists specializing in CBT in Santa Monica.

These experts work to reinforce the skills teens have learned in our program and teach techniques for managing anxiety and negative emotions. This valuable support serves your teen well throughout their recovery.

Note: We aren’t affiliated with these therapists. But all of them are licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), ensuring your teen gets top-notch medical care close to home.

Recreational, Reading Programs, and Community Centers For Teens In Santa Monica, CA

Guiding your teens through their teenage behavior can sometimes be challenging and hard on parents, which is why finding the right balance is essential. It’s not just about keeping them secure due to their not fully insulated brain but also about making their lives richer in ways that really count.

The good news is that Santa Monica has a ton of community, recreational centers, and reading programs that are all about helping your teens be their best selves.

Recreation is essential for everyone, but it’s important during a teen’s growing years. Socializing through recreation helps them become mature, healthy adults.

Think about it: participating in community recreation, aquatic activities, and reading programs not only creates a less-stressed mind but also makes teens better at handling stress. It’s good for their mental health and helps keep obesity and long-term illnesses away by giving them chances to increase rigorous physical activity in a variety of forms.

Connecting with nature can lower stress, strengthen relationships, and boost mental health.

The social benefits show up in all parts of a teen’s life—joining leagues, afterschool programs, and camps at recreation centers helps them work better in teams and be stronger leaders. Besides this, the only other place that comes close is the public library, and we’d love for your teens to go there, too!

Note: Don’t forget to check out the fees associated with these centers.

High School Counseling Resources for Santa Monica Adolescents

During our treatment, we encourage teens to think about their future—whether it’s career options or personal goals. This helps them develop a sense of purpose and motivation that can push them away from substance abuse and harmful habits.

With our guidance, they explore their interests, set goals they can reach, and start seeing a future they’re excited about. This approach keeps them engaged in recovery and helps them build habits that last.

However, the road to recovery doesn’t end when teens complete our program. Going back to school, dealing with daily life, and staying on a new path bring fresh challenges. That’s why, to make this transition easier, we’ve compiled a list of local academic counselors in Santa Monica.

These counselors help teens stay on top of their studies while also reinforcing the goal-setting and career skills they practiced here at Key Healthcare. This kind of support is key to staying motivated and finding purpose, helping them not only stay on track academically but also in their new life.

Find Your Teenager's Fitness Flow in Santa Monica, CA

Yoga therapy is one of the most effective practices that we use during our teen residential program. It has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety—feelings that are very common for teens when they are working through recovery.

Yoga triggers the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system through breathing exercises and focused attention. That creates a sense of peace and mindfulness. This practice helps teens stay grounded in the present rather than getting lost in cycles of their negative thoughts. In fact, these skills make it easier to avoid relapse and support a recovery that lasts.

In addition to calming the mind, yoga therapy helps reduce cravings, control impulsive behaviors, and ease anxiety. It’s a core part of our program. But here’s a reminder, parents. Recovery doesn’t stop when teens leave our center.

You see, staying active after residential treatment is the key. It helps teens hold onto the positive routines they’ve developed. Through yoga (if not yoga), then gym, and martial arts, they can keep growing their mental and physical well-being.

Regular exercise brings balance, strength, and a sense of purpose that’s key for long-term recovery. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of Santa Monica fitness centers where parents can find supportive spaces and activities for their teens.
