Is This Your Teen?
Are any of these warning signs showing up in your teen at home?
Maybe you’ve noticed your teen becoming more secretive, staying out later, or spending time with a different crowd. Maybe their moods have shifted — more irritable, defensive, or impossible to reach. Grades are slipping. Interests they used to love no longer seem to matter.
You may be finding things you don’t recognize, noticing money or valuables going missing, or seeing physical changes you can’t explain. These changes can feel sudden and hard to name. Substance use in teens often begins gradually — and by the time parents notice, it can already be affecting every part of their teen’s life. You are not overreacting for paying attention to this. When these signs start showing up consistently, it may be time for a higher level of support.
Key Healthcare helps teens and families address substance use with evidence-based treatment designed specifically for adolescents.

(800) 421-4364past. present. future.
Healing the present begins with understanding the past. At Key Healthcare, our comprehensive treatment approach addresses the full scope of a teen's experience past, present, and future.
Our clinical process is straightforward and built on three core steps.
The foundation of adolescent healing starts with confronting past trauma. Unresolved trauma disrupts emotional development, impairs relationships, affects academic performance, and increases the risk of long-term mental and physical health issues.
Research shows that adolescents with unprocessed trauma are more likely to develop depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and family dysfunction. Our experience at Key Healthcare also shows that when past trauma is not addressed, teens often remain stuck in patterns of distress, unable to move forward in their healing.
At our teen rehab center, we use a three-part clinical process that addresses the full scope of a teen’s journey. First, we help teens and families process past traumas and struggles with evidence-based trauma-informed therapies.
Second, we focus on present challenges, teaching skills to regulate emotions, strengthen relationships, and improve daily functioning. Finally, with clarity and stability in place, we guide teens toward building resilience, motivation, and inspiration for the future.
The clinical approach at our teen treatment center combines individual therapy, group therapy, family work, and experiential programming. We use proven modalities such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, and family systems therapy to ensure treatment is comprehensive and effective.
Clinical research shows that trauma-informed interventions improve emotional regulation, strengthen family functioning, and support long-term recovery. Our experience confirms this: when teens confront the past, develop tools for the present, and focus on the future, they gain the resilience needed to thrive well into adulthood.

Common questions from parents
What substances do you treat at Key Healthcare?
Key Healthcare treats a wide range of substance use disorders in teens, including alcohol, marijuana, opioids, cocaine, prescription medication misuse, and other substances. We also specialize in dual diagnosis — treating substance use alongside co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and trauma.
What is residential treatment and is it right for my teen?
Residential treatment means your teen lives at our facility full-time while receiving intensive clinical care. It is typically recommended when outpatient support has not been sufficient, when the home environment poses risks to recovery, or when the severity of substance use requires round-the-clock structure and supervision. Our team will assess whether residential treatment is the right level of care during a confidential intake call.
Does insurance cover teen substance use treatment?
Yes, most major insurance plans cover substance use treatment under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. Key Healthcare works with many commercial insurance providers. You can verify your teen’s benefits using the insurance verification form on this page, or call our admissions team directly for a quick benefits check.
How long does treatment at Key Healthcare last?
Treatment length depends on your teen’s clinical needs, progress, and the level of care recommended. Residential programs typically range from 30 to 90 days. Our clinical team will regularly evaluate progress and recommend step-down care (such as PHP or IOP) when appropriate. The goal is always the shortest effective treatment duration, not unnecessary extension.
Can you treat both substance use and mental health at the same time?
Yes — this is one of our core specialties. Many teens struggling with substance use are also dealing with underlying anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health conditions. Treating both together (dual diagnosis treatment) leads to significantly better long-term outcomes than addressing only one side of the picture. Our clinical team is trained to assess and treat both simultaneously.
